This tour covers many of them, from the ancient city of Anuradhapura in the north to the fortified city of Galle built by the Portuguese in the south, and passing by Sri Lanka’s stunning highlands. Day 1: Fly to Colombo (N)

Day 2: Colombo

Afternoon arrival and transfer to The Wallawwa hotel for 1 night. (N)

Day 3: Anuradhapura

Morning transfer to Ulagalla Resort for 2 nights, a short drive from the ancient city of Anuradhapura. Remainder of day at leisure. (B)

Day 4: Anuradhapura

Drive to the ancient city of Anuradhapura. For 1,400 years this was Sri Lanka’s capital and contains fabulous Buddhist shrines and relics. (B)

Day 5: Sigiriya • Kandy

Early morning drive to the ruined city of Sigiriya with its impressive palace-fortress high up on a protruding column of rock. Continue to Kandy and stay 3 nights at Bougainvillea Retreat. (B)

Day 6: Kandy

Morning visit to the Temple of the Tooth, a Buddhist temple which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. Afternoon visit to the Peradeniya botanical gardens. (B)

Day 7: Kandy

Spend a day at leisure either relaxing at your hotel or exploring Kandy. (B)

Day 8: Koslanda

Early morning drive to Koslanda via a tea plantation. Stay at Living Heritage Koslanda, featuring its own tea plantation, for 2 nights. (B)

Day 9: Koslanda

Day at leisure to relax or take part in some of the experiences on offer at the hotel including cooking classes, hikes to the nearby waterfall and other walks through the forest. (B)

Day 10: Tangalle

Drive to Tangalle on the southern coast and stay for 2 nights at The Last House or Coco Tangalle. Remainder of the day at leisure. (B)

Day 11: Tangalle

Day at leisure. You may wish to relax on the beach or book yourself a spa treatment. (B)

Day 12: Galle

Drive to the fortress city of Galle and stay for 2 nights at Why House or Kahanda Kanda. Afternoon guided tour of Galle, including the fort. (B)

Day 13: Galle

At leisure to explore the streets of Galle and the many boutique shops, cafes and Dutch colonial-inspired buildings, or relax at your hotel. (B)

Day 14: Colombo

Transfer to Colombo and stay for 1 night at The Residence. Afternoon guided walking tour of Colombo, a fascinating experience that shows how far this city has come in the last few years. (B)
