Your 15-Day Royal Itinerary: Step-by-Step
Phase 1: The Imperial Capital
Day 1: Fly to Delhi
Your journey begins with a flight to Delhi. Upon arrival, the Saffron Travels team will meet you and provide a private transfer to your hotel. It’s time to shake off the jet lag and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.
Day 2: Delhi
Arrive and transfer to the Radisson Blu Paschim Vihar (or similar) for a 2-night stay. This day is yours to relax and enjoy the amenities of your luxury hotel before we dive into the history of India tomorrow.
Day 3: Delhi
Today, we explore the contrast between Old and New Delhi. You’ll experience a guided tour including a drive past the Red Fort and a visit to Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in Asia. We pay our respects at Raj Ghat and drive past the imposing India Gate and Parliament buildings. A highlight of the day is visiting the 14th-century Agrasen ki Baoli and the stunning Humayun’s Tomb, a precursor to the Taj Mahal.
Phase 2: The Gateway to the Desert
Day 4: Shekhawati
We drive to the fabulous Shekhawati region, often called the “open-air art gallery of Rajasthan.” You will stay at the Desert Resort in Mandawa. The afternoon is spent wandering through streets lined with havelis covered in intricate, hand-painted frescoes that tell stories of a bygone era.
Day 5: Bikaner
We drive further into the desert to Bikaner, checking into the ultra-chic Narendra Bhawan. In the afternoon, we tour Junagarh Fort, a rare example of a Rajasthani fort not built on a hilltop, followed by a vibrant walk through the local bazaar to soak in the colors and scents of the desert.
Phase 3: The Golden City and the Blue City
Day 6: Jaisalmer
We head to the “Golden City” of Jaisalmer and transfer to the Gorbandh Palace for a 2-night stay. The city, carved out of yellow sandstone, appears like a mirage in the Thar Desert.
Day 7: Jaisalmer
In the morning, we explore the living Jaisalmer Fort, where families have resided for centuries. We also visit the serene Gadi Sagar Lake and the famous Patwon Ki Haveli. The day ends with a drive to the outskirts of the city for a camel ride and a spectacular sunset over the sand dunes.
Day 8: Jodhpur
We drive to the “Blue City” of Jodhpur and check into the Indana Resort. After lunch, we enjoy a guided tour of the formidable Mehrangarh Fort, which looks down upon the blue-washed houses of the old city. We also visit Jaswant Thada, a beautiful white marble memorial.
Phase 4: The City of Lakes and the Romantic South
Day 9: Ranakpur • Udaipur
The journey continues to Udaipur, the “Venice of the East.” En route, we stop at the stunning Jain Temples of Ranakpur, famous for their 1,444 uniquely carved marble pillars. On arrival in Udaipur, you will check into the LaLit Laxmi Vilas Palace for 2 nights of lakeside luxury.
Day 10: Udaipur
The morning offers an optional excursion to the Nagda and Eklingji temples. In the afternoon, we take a city tour of Udaipur, including the magnificent City Palace and the lush gardens of Saheliyon-ki-Bari. A sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola is the perfect way to end the day.
Phase 5: The Pink City and the Golden Triangle Finish
Day 11: Jaipur
A morning drive brings us to the royal city of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.
Day 12: Jaipur
A full day of exploration in the “Pink City.” We start with a photo stop at the Hawa Mahal (Palace of the Winds) before a tour of the Amber Fort. In the afternoon, we visit the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing, followed by the City Palace Museum and the Jantar Mantar observatory. You’ll stay at the LaLit Jaipur.
Day 13: Fatehpur Sikri • Agra
We drive toward Agra, stopping at the beautifully preserved deserted capital of Emperor Akbar, Fatehpur Sikri. Upon arrival in Agra, check into the Radisson Blu and enjoy a farewell dinner as we celebrate our journey.
Day 14: Delhi
A morning visit to the Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, followed by a drive back to Delhi. We spend our final night at the Holiday Inn Aerocity, conveniently located for our departure.
Day 15: Departure
Transfer to the airport for your flight home, carrying with you the spirit of Rajasthan.
